The Jesus Cow in Durham Tonight

Tonight my friend Phil Cook and I are taking The Jesus Cow show to The Regulator Bookshop in Durham, North Carolina. Last night in Chapel Hill we had a fine, laughter-filled time of good music and clodhopper standup, and I expect the same this evening.

It’s a pleasure and privilege to have friends like Phil. To watch him grow from a spacey Wisconsin boy into a respected, accomplished musician in demand as a sideman (touring with The Blind Boys of Alabama and Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls, and Hiss Golden Messenger), as a member of Megafaun, and for his own work, in particular the recent masterpiece Southland Mission.

My favorite moment of last night? I closed with a passage that includes a few lines of poetry by Honorée Fanonne Jeffers as Phil set some spirits loose with his old National guitar.

Here’s a fuzzy iPhone4 photo of Phil at work last night. Tonight? See you in Durham.
