Instagram Song

A week ago I got a message from a Canadian songwriter saying he was using one of my Instagram captions as a lyric. I wrote a “Roughneck Grace” column about these lovely/odd interconnections (column out this Sunday) and in the meantime this music happened. It’s a beautiful song (heads up, does contain a heartfelt curse-quote just in case you’re listening in mixed company) of the sort that derives its power from something other than the volume knob. Jim’s a self-employed musician and father and BandCamp is letting artists keep all proceeds today. Who’s Jim Bryson? A member of singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards’s touring band, Bryson has also toured and recorded with many other artists, including Howe Gelb, Lynn Miles, Sarah Harmer, The Weakerthans, Hilotrons and The Tragically Hip.
