Big Beautiful Truck, Small Beautiful Moment

Got a message recently: “Very early in my relationship with my wife I shared your book Truck: A Love Story. And over the last 17 years we have built up our own collection of IH trucks, we are planning on attending Saturday’s show and I was wondering if I could get you to sign the header panel on our truck.”

The answer was “yep.”

Photo 1: Ben and Trudy (I hope I got that right) and me (wearing a hoodie my wife and daughters got me for Christmas). Between soundcheck and right before the Long Beds concert. Hadn’t changed into my sequined leotard yet.

Photo 2: This gorgeous beast.

Photo 3: Shootin’ the breeze, hands in pockets, the way it should be.

Photo 4: Signing the header panel. Among other things, “Double Clutch!”

I meet just enough people that it often comes down to a few moments snatched here or there and then it’s back to our respective lives. But I try to give everything I’ve got to those couple of moments. And it’s a two-way thing. It’s a quiet, civilized (but also roughneck-y) joy to meet folks and a truck like this. Hammer down!

Thanks to Lee Butterworth Photo for help in the dark.
