My step-father-in-law (I think I got that right) volunteers at a mission on St. Croix here in the Virgin Islands.  He took me along yesterday to help serve coffee to those who showed up for a hot meal.  One of the gentlemen present offered the following summary of his status before he became a husband and father:

No child, no chick, no parrot on a stick.
