SUMMARY:Michael Perry and the Long Beds Return to the JAMF Theater
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, January 25th\, 2025 (fresh off three days of recording new material)\, Michael Perry and the Long Beds return to the JAMF Theater at the Pablo Center. \nIn a time when everything is screen-mediated or designed to harangue or influence\, an evening with Mike and the Long Beds is a welcome reprieve. The band is crackerjack (does anybody still say “crackerjack”?!?!)\, ripping it up on the solos and bridges when ripping it up is called for\, and laying in just the quiet note or accent when that better suits the mood. Sometimes they whoop it up\, sometimes they soup it up\, and sometimes they go soft and slow\, drawing the entire room into the delicate cocoon of a shared human moment. Mike knows some chords and mainly just strums. But he does write the songs (with the exception of the band’s only cover tune\, “Waymore’s Blues”) and sing’em\, so that’s why he stands there in the middle. As with Mike’s written work (a back catalog of 20-plus books) a Long Beds show blends powerful poetics\, homespun humor\, and a feeling like you’re rolling country roads in jeans and a pickup truck\, giggling one minute\, getting misty the next\, now and then whooping out the window\, and above all feeling like you’re riding with friends who mean it. \nTickets range between $33.14 – $39.77. \nTickets can be purchased here. \nDoors open: 6:30 PM\nShow starts: 7:30 PM \nAll ages welcome to attend. \nMike will meet and greet fans\, and sign merchandise after the show. \nJAMF Theater at Pablo Center\n128 Graham Avenue\nEau Claire\, WI 54701

SUMMARY:Michael Perry Returns to Iowa (show #2) – Marshalltown Public LIbrary
DESCRIPTION:ATTENDANCE AT THIS EVENT IS FREE \nAs part of Michael Perry’s 2-day run in Iowa\, he will speak (if you’ve never seen Mike speak\, you know “speak” doesn’t quite get it–more like roughneck standup comedy with a poetic twist) at the Marshalltown Public Library on Thursday\, November 21\, 2024 at 6:00pm in the library’s Community Meeting Room. This event is free. Beaverdale Books will have books for sale and signing after the event.   \nMichael Perry is a farm boy turned humorist\, New York Times bestselling author\, volunteer firefighter/first responder\, corporate speaker\, and amateur snow plow driver from rural Wisconsin. After leaving you laughing (and nodding\, and sometimes getting misty) from his “reflective roughneck” takes on life in rural America\, Perry will stay to sign books and other merchandise for sale. \nPerry’s bestselling books include the volunteer firefighter memoir Population: 485 (subsequently adapted for the stage)\, Truck: A Love Story\, Coop\, Visiting Tom\, and Montaigne in Barn Boots. Among his other twenty-plus titles are The Scavengers (for  young readers)\, his novel The Jesus Cow\, the essay collections Peaceful Persistence\, Million Billion\, and Hunker\, and his most recent book\, the deeply powerful novella Forty Acres Deep. Raised on a small Midwestern dairy farm\, Perry put himself through nursing school while working on a ranch in Wyoming\, then detoured into writing. He lives with his wife and two daughters in rural Wisconsin\, where he still makes an occasional call with the local volunteer fire and rescue service. He performs widely as a humorist (his live humor albums include Never Stand Behind A Sneezing Cow and The Clodhopper Monologues)\, tours with his band The Long Beds\, and lives online at www.sneezingcow.com. \nThis event is sponsored by the Friends of the Marshalltown Public Library and is free and open to the public. For more questions\, please contact the library’s Information Desk at 641-754-5738 ext. 2. \nMarshalltown Public Library\n105 West Boone St\nMarshalltown\, IA 50158 \n  \n

SUMMARY:Michael Perry and The Long Beds Return to New Auburn
DESCRIPTION:Saturday November 16\, 2024\, Michael Perry and the Long Beds return to New Auburn\, WI to perform at the New Auburn High School auditorium. Show begins at 3:30 PM. \nLong before he was writing bestselling books\, playing music\, and filming television specials like Michael Perry: On the Road\, Mike was growing up on a New Auburn farm (where he learned such life lessons as Never Stand Behind A Sneezing Cow) and going from kindergarten to graduation at New Auburn elementary and high school (T-R-O-J-A-N-S!). He liked old pickup trucks but was never good at fixing them\, he liked playing football but was pretty slow\, and he wasn’t much of a farmer\, so he wandered off and somehow wound up making a living traveling\, singing\, and telling stories. But through it all\, he’s always been grateful to be of and from New Auburn\, Wisconsin–so he’s real happy to to bringing his humorous stories and his band to the New Auburn gym for a show to help raise some money for a community cause. Whether you’re from Nobbern* or not\, we hope you’ll join us. \n*Some spell it NAUBURN\, N’AUBURN\, N’OBBERN…bet we all know where yer talkin’ about. \n$5.00 admission. Ages 5 and under are FREE. \nDoors at noon. Show begins at 3:30 PM. Meet and greet with the author once the band is done. \nNew Auburn High School auditorium\n704 E North Street\nNew Auburn\, WI 54757 \nThe New Auburn Park Committee will be providing a meal to purchase for $10\, which includes a pulled pork sandwich\, creamy deviled egg potato salad\, cowboy bean\, dessert\, and beverages.

SUMMARY:Michael Perry and the Long Beds Return to ICEHOUSE MPLS
DESCRIPTION:Live! Sunday June 23\, 2024. \nMichael Perry and the Long Beds return to Minneapolis. \nFull band show at ICEHOUSE MPLS. \nBacked by a band named after his 1951 International Harvester pickup truck\, Michael Perry returns to the Icehouse. The set list runs from roughneck ballads to freight train rockers. “I look like a logger\, but feel things like a poet\,” says Perry\, chuckling. “The Long Beds give me a way to sort it out in song.” Like his bestselling books\, Perry’s songs draw on his blue collar roots but are threaded with unexpectedly poignant heartstring strands. The show is propelled by a band of veteran hands. “They carry me along\, dead solid and straight\,” says Perry. “And I love the part where I step back and turn ’em loose.” Lead guitarist Mary Cutrufello cut her Telecaster teeth in the Texas roadhouse scene. Ben Lester’s pedal steel cuts clear through to the heavens. Drummer Dave Power is the pistons and the tick-tick of the highway. And that’s just one side of the stage. “We’re all friends up here\, and it shows\,” says Perry. “We’re happy to be here.” \nLong Beds fans have also grown to love “story time\,” those between-song moments when Perry riffs into one of the hilarious off-the-cuff tales from his background as a Wisconsin farm kid turned cowboy turned nurse turned best selling author and humorist (as featured on the recent PBS special Michael Perry: On the Road). \nWhen he’s not writing songs\, Perry is writing books. SUMMARY:The Mike and Mary Situation at The White Squirrel Bar (Saint Paul\, MN)
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday May\, 8th\, 2024\, the Mike and Mary Situation heads to The White Squirrel Bar in Saint Paul\, MN for an intimate\, relaxed evening of songs\, stories\, and good-natured onstage exchanges grown out of making music for years and years and miles and miles. \n(Photo credit David Tanner Photography) \nPut a Wisconsin farm boy and volunteer firefighter turned bestselling author and songwriter onstage beside an East Coast Yale grad who earned her chops in FedEx trucks and Texas honky-tonks and you’ve got the Mike and Mary Situation. As a duo\, Perry and Cutrufello are as at ease with the audience as they are with each other. The songs hit directly and cleanly\, the harmonies contrast like worn leather and rough-cut lumber\, and the stage banter plays like a conversation between two longtime road-wise friends who’ve taken their lumps and their chances\, whose trade is words and music but know what it is to work a loading dock or a pitchfork\, and who figure if life ain’t played out exactly as you drew it up\, you might as well laugh about it\, sing about it\, and get on with it. \nWednesday\, May 8\, 2024\n\n\nShow: 6 – 8 PM\n21 + up\nNo cover charge. Tips for the band are highly encouraged. \n\nThe White Squirrel Bar\n\n974 7th St West\nSt Paul\, MN 55102
