To Whom It May Concern:

Regarding your correspondence claiming my Montana tax returns are delinquent: I am a self-employed writer living in Wisconsin. I came to Montana in October 2009 to deliver a reading. I dutifully reported my modest earnings, paid my tax preparer to file a Montana tax return, and paid a miniscule (single-digit) amount of tax, which (a few months later) you then refunded—in other words, a pretty expensive “refund” for me and for Montana taxpayers by the time all the paperwork settled.

Subsequently, I received communication saying my Montana taxes were delinquent. My tax preparer (at more cost to me) sent you a letter clarifying the situation.

Another year, and now you’re after me again. This letter I’m typing myself, in hopes that the department can come to understand: The return for my 2009 visit was my FINAL return.

This circular experience has been frustrating and threatens to chisel away at my love for your fine state, dangit.
