Notes From the Road

I so enjoy being a guest on KFAI’s Write On Radio!, and today’s show was no different.  I don’t mean to pigeonhole him, but host Ian Leask’s voice is a treat for me because I am reminded of England and my dear friend Tim.  Today on the show I read a section from Coop honoring Tim’s memory (and the music, among others, of Bronski Beat, Simple Minds, The Waterboys, Roxy Music, Marillion, Pink Floyd, and Status Quo).  I miss my friend, but he left me with much by which to remember him.

You can hear me read the section during the second half of the show, available for listening here.

But the neatest thing? Unbeknownst to me I was booked on the show with longtime acquaintance and friend the poet (and fine jazz musician) Richard Terrill.  Mr. Terrill is one of the many who taught me about writing while we sat around a small corner table in a bar called The Joynt.  When I walked in the lobby of the radio station and saw him there I was delighted.  Even better to sit beside him in the studio and listen as he read from Almost Dark, his new book of poetry.  He’s reading in Fridley, Minnesota tomorrow night.

As for me, tonight I’ll be in Minnetonka.
