I spent many years riding with and writing about truckers (still miss my beloved Road King t-shirt, which finally disintegrated) and there are truckers in my family (including my late Uncle Stan, for whom I wrote “How Many Miles”) (although Aunt Meg may have had her Freightliner first) and when I observe the driving habits of the general public (my absent-minded self included) I can tell you it’s nice when folks like this are recognized (hang in there after you click, there’s a brief ad). Don’t know the gentleman, but I want him in my lane…

Shot this self-portrait on second-to-last morning of the recent book tour leg.  Note plastic plant, lame coffee, and general sag-eyed cragginess.  Fortunately the book business does not require nip and tuck.  At least not for me.

Despite the general droopiness you are looking at a photo of a guy who loves what he does.

Oh, and the sticker says just local food.  Some friends of ours back home.  You know you are dealing with Wisconsin when they have a beer tasting featuring a brew called “Floppin’ Crappie.”
