Fencing for beefers is progressing, we have a fresh batch of chicks due to arrive in a week or so (thus, actual spring would be nice), and next week we’ll be getting feeder pigs. The photo below was taken of our last batch, fairly early in their career. The wheelbarrow is full of acorns: here’s the story on that, and here’s the story on how some of the acorns were gathered. And here’s the album we were working on when we gathered the acorns.
Another interview for the Coop paperback tour, although we got delightfully off-track and managed to discuss Truck and Population 485 and the music as well. I like this blog radio business. I can yap all around the country while staring at my actual (as opposed to virtual) chickens.
Long Beds recording sessions continue. Billy was inside recording an acoustic guitar part so Chuck and I took the opportunity to gather acorns for my porkers. What you see here is an eminently talented bassist scooping up free pig food with a child’s snow shovel. This is a pretty relaxed crew.
Early morning easy listening: Bloodletting, by Concrete Blonde. I like the name songs: “Caroline” and “Joey“.

Which might make me dig out this guy (he once got me into big trouble while live on the air at a radio station, a story that requires some time lapse before the retelling) (he wasn’t actually there at the time).
Turned the pigs into some new territory late last night. They wouldn’t cross the old electric fence line. But this morning they had overcome their fear and the new patch looked like it had been attacked by organic bulldozers which in fact it had. Back when I was off on book tour, the neighbor plowed us a patch and my wife scatter-sowed rape and rye. The patch is thick green and luscious now and those pigs love that rape. So do the ducks. They hit it with their beaks all a-clatter.
