Sounds Like Summer 2011

The Long Beds are pleased to announce that we’ll be part of Volume One’s “Sounds Like Summer” concert series. Listening to music in the grass on a summer night down by the river…it’s a fine thing. To get an idea of why more and more folks keep flocking to this event, have a look at these photos.

We’ll be playing June 9, details here (here we are playing inside) But don’t just wait on us – enjoy the music all summer long.

Here, Piggy…

Fencing for beefers is progressing, we have a fresh batch of chicks due to arrive in a week or so (thus, actual spring would be nice), and next week we’ll be getting feeder pigs. The photo below was taken of our last batch, fairly early in their career. The wheelbarrow is full of acorns: here’s the story on that, and here’s the story on how some of the acorns were gathered. And here’s the album we were working on when we gathered the acorns.

Long Beds Welcome Special Guest Randy Sabien

I’ll be hitting the road with my band the Long Beds next week for a mix of storytelling and music in Richland Center, Oconomowoc, and Sheboygan. We have a great time at these events and sure hope you can make it.

As many of you know, over the past couple of years the band has consisted of the bald guy up front plus Billy, Chuck and Chris, and – whenever her schedule allows (she has her own band and business) – longtime friend and fiddler Molly Otis.

Molly had previous commitments for these upcoming dates, so I asked for a favor from another friend, and we’re honored to say that renowned jazz violinist (he can also – as my boss in Wyoming would say – flat fiddle!) Randy Sabien will be joining us for all three shows. Randy’s reputation is worldwide, and it’ll be a thrill for us to make room for him in between the mic stands.

Big Old Thank You

Someone just sent me this link, which reminds me one more time to say thanks to all the friends and neighbors who turned out for this. You did a bunch of good. And my brother’s barbershopper quartet opened for us! What fun, and they also gave us a gorgeous national anthem.

And as always, thank you to the Long Beds. Chuck, Chris, Billy, Molly. Can’t adequately express what a comfort and privilege it is to look up from my International guitar and see them working away…

Thank You Nobbern and Long Beds

Shot the breeze with long-time neighbors last night, played music with friends, and just plain enjoyed going home. All for a good cause. Thank you to everyone who made the time and took the trip. Special thank-yous to the Long Beds, who donated their time and considerable talents, and to Sir Arthur’s Court-tet, who opened for us. Beautiful anthem, fellows.

And – if you were there you’ll understand – from now on I’ll call it quasi-cappella.

Also a thanks to Dan, who was there sweeping up the popcorn when I packed the last box in the car and headed south.
