Sneezing Cow Charity Auction Open Now

Up there where I come from, a one-woman hurricane of helpful named Roberta has established a food pantry that recently expanded to serve my hometown of New Auburn.  With the hope that we can help them out some, we’ve set up a charity* auction on eBay featuring a number of items, from book tour t-shirts to long-lost copies of How To Hypnotize a Chicken.

Over the next few days, we’ll highlight some of the items on the blog, but for now, to view and bid on items, please click here.  Be sure to read the descriptions for each, all of which include an explanatory note from Mike (items will be personalized for winning bidders upon request).

*Note so we’re all on the same page: Depending on the provenance of the items, 50% to 100% of proceeds (minus shipping and eBay/MissionFish percentage) will be donated.  Generally speaking, if the item was something like a contributor’s copy, we go the 100% route.  If the item was part of Mike’s collection, some proceeds will be retained for mortgages and pending orthodonture bills.  Percentages are clearly noted in the item descriptions.

Thank you!  Again, auction items are here.

Sneezing Cow Newsletter

As a way of keeping in touch, we recently sent the second installment of the “SneezingCow Report” to everyone on our snail-mail list.  If you didn’t receive one, you can view the newsletter here.

In addition to wood-splitter towing motorcycles, a chicken coop on wheels, and a chance to bid on out-of-print and rare Mike Perry books and prose, the current newsletter announces the first installment of Sneezing Cow Podcast.  Episode #1 includes Mike and Al discussing yodeling, spit cups, and fatherhood, and Mike reads an essay about fatherhood. Also included is a live audience clip in which Mike tells the beer tent story (and the hair loss story, and the nursing degree story). To listen, download, or stream the Podcast follow this link.  Podcast #2 is currently in the editing stage and should be available in the next couple of weeks depending on factors including snow, firewood, and sausage-making.

To keep up with Mike’s whereabouts and mumbling please join him on Twitter or become a Facebook fan:

Wide Open Highway

When I was but a tot, he taught me to say “Jake Brake.”

First time I saw New York City it was from the cab of his eighteen-wheeler.

He served his country.

He honored his God.

He was a good man.

“Time to get outta Dodge,” he’d say, then fire that diesel up.

The tanks are full and the tarps are tight, Uncle Stan.  Every road leads home and all the weigh stations are closed.  Let’er roll.

Tomorrow on Morning Edition

Late scheduling change, not sure if this aired: I am told that a brief audio piece I did with producer/rambling recordist Todd Witter will air on Wisconsin Public Radio’s Morning Edition at approximately 6:35 a.m. CST and again at 8:35 a.m. CST.  You can listen here.

Hunting, Kinda

Yesterday afternoon was a foggy drizzle so I sat in the pig hutch* with the 30-06 across my knees and a 50-years-old pocket transistor radio at just detectable volume listening to the Packers subvert the Vikings.  Not sure this qualifies as ‘hunting’ (and it certainly didn’t yield any venison) but I found myself feeling like a rich man.

If You Were Expecting A Post

I am wrapped in blaze orange and sitting in a tree and by way of explanation, refer you to this two-day-old post, in case you missed it: Deer Hunting For Your Soul.

Oh, and pursuant to that post, I had a quick visit with this guy (is that a blaze orange cap?)*, and yep, he’s up a tree too.
