New Old-Timers

I have a lot of theories.  Farmers, truckers, loggers…sometimes writers…anyone who spends a lot of time working solo will tend to generate a lot of theories.  One of my theories is that we are headed for a stretch where we’ll need “new old-timers.”  Folks who know a lot about many things and who are also unafraid to plunge in.  And a hint: They will not necessarily be living in the country…in fact, it may be quite the opposite.

Am exploring that theory today by tramping around with this guy, someone whose blog regularly inspires and utterly defeats me (last comment offered with a smile).

New Literature and Medicine Anthology

When Therese Zink was teaching in the Rural Physician Assistant Program at the University of Minnesota, she became interested in the stories of small town medicine.  Now she has compiled an anthology published as part of the Literature and Medicine by Kent State University Press filled with essays exploring this concept.  The book is called The Country Doctor Revisited, and I’m honored to say it includes an essay drawn from Population 485.

Table of contents here.

Stowing Things

Picking up pumpkins and squash, moving the chickens over to clean up the garden patch, storing the chick feeders, getting the new compost bin up in time for the leaves, bedding down the blueberries…

Must be autumn.

Podcast, Anyone?

Getting together with my friend Jaime (among other things, he recorded the airplane for Tiny Pilot) to record a few things for a possible monthly podcast.  Haven’t tried this before, we’re learning as we go along, but hoping folks might be interested enough to give it a listen.  My secret weapon is a guy named Al.

More info when the podcast is actually available.
