Among the many hospitable things given me by the citizens of Pekin, IL, last week was a room at the local Holiday Inn. Now Josh the photographer sends me this… Did I leave the iron on?
Gonna join my old friend Jay Moore on Moose Country 106.7 next Monday morning at 6:00 a.m. Central. I’ve mentioned Jay and the Moose many times in my writing. Here’s his website. Among other things, we’ll be talking about my upcoming show at the Heyde Center.
You can listen to the Moose online here. You might have to start here.
Back in July I had the privilege of serving as Grand Marshal (or was it just Marshal?) (it felt Grand!) of the International Harvester Red Power Parade. Tonight a piece I did from the parade will air on In Wisconsin at 7 p.m. Central. Eventually I believe the piece will be posted here. A special tip of the hat to videographer Rick Fatke, who wound up having to run part of the parade route and also caught that part where we…um…ran out of gas.
When our friends John and Julie (they shot the cover of Coop, Off Main Street, Population 485, Truck, and Headwinded) visited this summer, they brought their friend and student Wilmer and made a short film starring a fly and our pigs.
“In A Town This Size,” by John Prine and Dolores Keane.
Mr. Big-Shot Writer Dude just received an email from his 7th grade English teacher saying she’s enjoying Coop but that on page 138 I should have used “quietly” rather than “quiet.”
She is correct, of course. I am told she is re-sharpening her red pen. I expect at least three more emails.
Thanks, Mrs. R. And thanks even more for that blackboard assignment back in 197? that helped me fall for writing in the first place.
Retired, you say? A teacher is always teaching.
Spending some time with relatives. Nice.
Fellow named Josh shot a bunch of photos of the event in Pekin. Link is here.
Josh also has a hard-working band with a great name.
My friend Ben drove in/down/over from Ohio to be at the reading in Portland, Indiana, last night and took this photo. It was good to see Ben. He has remained in loyal correspondence since way back when Population 485 came out.
Thanks to all the people in Portland and Pekin who turned out, and thanks to all who helped prepare, promote and present the event.
